Guéhi: Hoping Last Week Wasn't My Final Appearance in Midfield; Haaland's New Hairstyle Makes Him Look Younger
2026-08-28
As Manchester City gears up to face Crystal Palace in their second Premier League match, Guéhi shares his thoughts on the new season and his personal form in an interview with Super Sport.
How have you been lately?
I’m doing well, thank you. And you?
What are your feelings about the new season?
Although the season has just begun, the victory in our opening match has really lifted everyone's spirits, and we’ve received some positive feedback.
How does it feel to be a new signing, having joined mid-season last year and now participating in a full pre-season?
Even though I wasn’t involved in the entire pre-season, the training upon my return has been intense, and I can clearly see improvements in my abilities. I've been working hard to grasp the coach's tactical requirements in a short time.
What are the differences between living in Manchester and London?
Life has changed a bit; I’m living alone now, giving me more time to explore and enjoy the charm of this city, which has been a delight. It’s an honor to play for one of the world's top clubs.
You scored in the opening match against Bournemouth; what was that experience like?
The feeling was absolutely amazing. Although I usually remain calm, winning that opening match in front of the fans was incredibly important, and I'm glad I could contribute to the team's success.
How does it feel to play in the midfield position?
I think it’s a great experience, and I hope it’s not my last time playing in that role. I enjoy trying out different positions, and the communication between players has enhanced my enjoyment of the game.
How has your experience been under the new head coach, Maresca?
It’s still early to draw conclusions, but he is a gracious coach who demonstrates enthusiasm and extensive experience. I’m looking forward to his leadership.
Are there tactical similarities between Maresca and Guardiola?
There are indeed some similarities, but Maresca also brings his unique insights. He combines the strengths of both approaches to create his own tactical style.
What are your thoughts on Haaland's new hairstyle?
I was a bit surprised by his new look, but I personally really like it. He definitely looks younger.
How are you adapting to the significant changes within the team?
Personnel changes are something every club goes through. The legendary players of the past have made immense contributions to the club, and now it's our turn to step up and continue that legacy, which presents a significant challenge for us.
How is new midfielder Elliott-Anderson adapting to the team?
He has integrated well; although he’s still adapting, he has shown his style in the first three matches and will contribute even more in the future.
Does Anderson go easy on teammates during training?
Absolutely not. The intensity of our training is akin to that of a competitive match. It’s great to see his high-level performances during training.
The club recently signed Boadu; what are your expectations for his arrival?
I’m very excited about his arrival. He’s a promising young player, and the club will fully support his adaptation to the environment.
What goals have you set for this season?
I don’t have specific personal goals; my aspirations align with the team’s objectives—striving for trophies in all competitions. We will give our all, work hard, and aim to deliver a satisfactory result.
