Núñez: I Will Give My All Anywhere
2026-08-07
Manchester City’s Núñez sat down for an interview with South Korean media on August 6, where he shared his experiences and feelings about his time in Korea.
On His Feelings About South Korea
“The culture here is incredibly rich. Today’s a day off, and I took a stroll around the city, which felt wonderful. However, the weather is really hot.”
On the Fans
“The fans in South Korea are exceptionally passionate and gave us a warm welcome. During yesterday’s match, I had the chance to interact with the supporters, and it felt great. Such opportunities are rare, so I tried to reciprocate with friendliness and enthusiasm, hoping to create lasting memories for the fans here.”
On Preseason
“The primary goal of preseason is to regain physical fitness and familiarize myself with the new manager's tactical philosophy. Having participated in the World Cup, my rest time was quite limited, so I need to get back to last season's form as quickly as possible.”
On Playing as a Full-Back
“I’ve mentioned in several interviews that I really didn’t want to play as a full-back before; it has truly been a challenge. In midfield, when the game is nearing its end, you can afford to relax slightly. But when you’re playing as a full-back, one defensive error can lead to a goal against, so you must maintain intense focus for the full 90 minutes, which is very demanding. “I’ve received tremendous support from the coach and my teammates, especially from Rúben Dias, whose help has been invaluable. Playing alongside him has allowed me to grow immensely.” “Before joining Manchester City, I thought I knew a lot about football, but I realized I still had so much to learn, starting from the basics, including positioning and passing. My transfer to Manchester City has been a significant turning point in my football career.”
On Competition
“It’s really tough to secure a starting spot in the team; every teammate possesses remarkable skills and delivers consistent performances. My greatest asset is my desire to play. Even if the coach asked me to play as a goalkeeper, I would give it my all.”
On Last Season
“I’m delighted to have had more playing time. In the past, after losing a match, I would dwell on it excessively, but now that I’m a regular starter, even after a defeat, there’s another match coming up in three days, which forces me to learn to move on quickly.”
On Assisting Haaland More Often
“It’s a natural connection that has formed; I don’t intentionally seek out assists. All I need to do is get the ball into the box, and I leave the rest to Haaland.” “Off the pitch, he’s a humorous guy with a great personality and is an excellent teammate, although he can be a bit loud at times.”
Advice for Korean Youth
“Believe in yourself and work hard. No matter how many failures you face, don’t lose heart; you must believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will.” “Also, surround yourself with reliable people. Family and friends can help you avoid taking wrong turns.”
On His Goals
“My primary task is to regain my physical fitness to 100%. I’m not quite at the level I was last season. I hope to secure as many trophies as possible and show even better performances than last season.”
